About The Association of Real Estate Funds
("AREF", "The Association")
AREF was founded in the early 1970s and formalised in 1986. Membership
of the Association is by the relevant Trust or Fund but representation
may be from the Committee of Management, Sponsoring House or the
responsible Surveyor.
Membership is open to unitised property funds.
The Aims of the Association
The Association's objective is to raise awareness of Real Estate Funds and demonstrate the advantages of these funds as effective
property investment vehicles. Its aims are:
1. To act as a collective voice for the property collective investment scheme (PCIS) sector
2. To represent members’ interests on legislative, regulatory and fiscal matters
3. To represent members’ interests on the operation and management of property collective investment schemes
4. Promotion and marketing of the sector
5. To carry out research
6. Provide education and training
7. To work closely with bodies having similar aims in property investment
8. To identify good practice and encourage members to comply with the Code of Practice
9. To promote excellence and transparency in performance measurement and provide funding for indices and related publications
10. Provide a forum for interacting with investors in the PCIS sector and ensuring their views and interests are communicated to the board
11. To carry out a programme of events for members and affiliates to interact
